Over fifty years ago a young girl scout, like hundreds of girls before her, stood under a wishing tree and made a wish. Her wish was to earn her merit badge in journalism and become a writer. We only know this because it is recorded in a Wilmington Star news story dated August 14th, 1966. The girl and her troop would have been camping along the banks of Bradley Creek on land owned by Thomas Wright. The girls knew it as Camp Wright, and in that idyllic setting they learned everything from first aid taught by a Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force, to how to tie fishing knots from officers in the U.S. Coast Guard. Every day began with a flag ceremony, and ended with a troop of very tired and happy girls. Whether or not the wishing tree is still there is any ones guess. But what remains is a heavily wooded tract of land sitting directly on one of the most coveted bodies of water in Wilmington. This parcel of close to two acres can be subdivided into three exceptional lots, each with its own boat slip, or developed into one large coastal oasis.
